Is it wrong to sleep while your hair is still wet? Our mothers always warned us that it isn’t good to go to sleep while your hair is wet, since we could catch pneumonia or cold. But is this true?

The truth is that going to bed right after you take a bath and don’t dry your hair properly won’t cause pneumonia or cold but could still be a bad decision. Why? Today we are going to answer that.

First, the moisture that is retained for too long in your hair can inflame your scalp , causing a really annoying itchiness. Also, this damages your mane, because the porosity of your hair surface is also greater.

That’s why it isn’t recommended to stay very long time with a towel on your head or a cap that will retain the moisture.

Other disadvantages of sleeping with wet hair are:

1. Headaches

Going to bed while your hair is still wet hair can give you a severe headache. This occurs because while you sleep the temperature of the body rises. As your body heats, the moisture collected on the towel wrapped around the head can give you a headache because there could be a greater temperature difference.

2. Hair Breakage

Wet hair breaks much often. So, if you decide to go to bed with your hair wet, chances are that your hair will break easily. Therefore, it isn’t a good idea to go to bed with wet hair.

3. Tangled hair

If you sleep while your hair is wet hair, you may end up with tangled hair the next morning. Those that have long hair should avoid sleeping with their hair wet.

4.Infections

Pillows are perfect place for bacteria because they absorb body oils, sweat and dead skin cells. Wet hair will wet the towel and it may carry moisture to your pillow which will then become a nest for development of bacteria.

5.Itchiness

Sleeping with your hair wet may cause various types of itching, caused by the moisture formed in the skin on your head.

6. Pain in the muscles

Sudden changes of temperature can’t only cause muscle pain, but it also leads to serious cramps and facial paralysis. This may eventually cause paralysis of your whole body.

7. Dandruff

Moist scalp may interfere with the sebaceous glands function present on your scalp. They may either begin to produce more oil or reduce the production of oil. This may disrupt the pH balance on the scalp. As a result of this you will suffer from oily scalp or dandruff.

Thus, if you whish to prevent all types of setbacks and diseases, avoid going to bed with your hair wet. That’s why it’s recommended to use a towel after taking a bath, and always keep the pillow dry. So, every time you wash your hair, always do this during the day. This will always be good for the general health.
